It was on this part of the trip that I met the family from
Hull (no Pics I'm afraid). Sharon and Andrew, the parents were heading back to
the UK after finishing 2 weeks with one of their daughters Chris. But Liz (the
other daughter) was staying on for a total of 4 weeks. She reminded me very much
of Ceri (who some of you know). Apart from her look and mannerisms, she was
raring for action and wanted to grab every last experience. Jurg didn't make it
unfortunately... somehow he'ad accidentally paid for something else (been ripped
off?), and had to spend 6 hours in the town.
With my passport packed full of Visas, and my last work day at work on 2nd of June out of the way... I have left for my travels abroad - over three months overlanding across Russia and Asia! My aim is to go as low carbon as possible - overlanding as much as possible - just one flight home, and one flight across where borders are closed. Look forward to meeting up with Ushma, Tom S, Tom B, Stu, my folks & bro, Cathy and Dave all along the way! LOOK OUT FOR MY (SHORT) DAILY UPDATES!

DAY 46 - The Gorge-ous Views! (27 July)
Today was the day that the boat entered the area that I had
been waiting to see - the three gorges! Towering tall above us, they made me
think of the Avon Gorge back in Bristol. These were magnificent to be looking at
from the tour boat. It was interesting to see things like huge televisions,
small houses and tiny shrines dotted around on the cliffs! Being on a
traditional Chinese tour (there were only about 9 westerners in total on the
boat).
The icing on the cake (and worth the extra £20) was to leave
the boat and go onto further boats (each decreasing in size), and see the
"Lesser 3 Gorges". In terms of the wow-factor, they were "morer" rather than
"lesser" for me! Though the gorges were "smaller", they were narrower, and you
could really get up close and appreciate the scale. And wasn't it just great
that the trip cleared to a hot sunny day in time for this?
