After a lazy day, we went out for Pizza at a posh Italian. Stu had been craving Pizza Hut (and it would also stabilise his stomach), so we went to a place called "Restaurante Tartufo" and then briefly delved deeper into Shanghai. It is very difficult to enjoy and absorb the ambience though, due to the swarms of hawkers trying to sell you watches, toys, massages, iPhones etc etc etc! Following Nigel's advice, we confused them with Punjabi and German, and then gabbered to each other - resulting in fast exits by the hawkers!
With my passport packed full of Visas, and my last work day at work on 2nd of June out of the way... I have left for my travels abroad - over three months overlanding across Russia and Asia! My aim is to go as low carbon as possible - overlanding as much as possible - just one flight home, and one flight across where borders are closed. Look forward to meeting up with Ushma, Tom S, Tom B, Stu, my folks & bro, Cathy and Dave all along the way! LOOK OUT FOR MY (SHORT) DAILY UPDATES!

DAY 41 - A relaxed day in Shanghai (22 July)
Shanghai doesn't offer an immense number of fantastic
"sights", so Stu and I kept it local for his last full day and night. We did the
"sightseeing tunnel" under the river. That was relatively interesting! It was a
light show, though it wasn't entirely spectacular. It was, however, a convenient
way to emerge at the side of the river opposite to the "Bund", and check out the
corporate landscape on that side. We came upon a man who was very talented with
a pair of scissors, and for a small fee, did some interesting paper art
likenesses of us. Can you guess which of us is shown in the flattering
sillhouette?
