After a tasty paratha breakfast (and procurement of extra parathas for the journey ahead) I went to the train station to board the Shaheed Express - a total of 56 stops from start to finish, I was joining at Gorakhpur Junction and finishing at Jalandhar Cant in the Punjab.
The train was surprisingly comfortable and I was in an Air Conditioned 2-tier sleeper car. Niraj from my compartment was an interesting person. He was an engineer for the Indian Air Force, and was involved in the procurement of helicopters from Russia. He was a Russian to Hindi translator, and introduced me to Oleg - a Russian living in Delhi on secondment. I used some broken phrases in Russian from the earlier part of the trip... what a small world!
Then it was early to bed for me, and a long night's sleep! Having heard about a baggage theft, I slept with my giant back pack as a pillow.
