Day 82 - Off to Malaysia (2 September)

We left our island this morning to set off for Malaysia. We are not certain how we will get there EXACTLY, because all of the timings are a bit vague, and the trains run at very silly times to the places we want to go! For now, we have decided that we will get far as we can sensibly, which will probably be Alor Setar in North Malaysia.

Our departure was like our arrival... taxi, ferry and minivan. Again, the wildlife was great. At the pier, jumping fish were leaping out of the water. I tried really hard to get a good picture, but this is difficult!.

Once in Trang Town, we caught a minivan to Hat Yai, north of the border, which was quicker than anticipated, so we made the only train of the day to Alor Setar, and made it there for a good time. I passed the long day of traveling entertaining the incredibly impressed Cathy with finger puppets made with pen. I was a bit worried when it turned out that they took fingerprints at the border, and I had smiley faces on my fingertips!

We shared a taxi with a French woman who has been working in India on French immigration, but is heading to Cambodia with her little daughter to see about doing the same job there! The reason we met her was because she overslept on her bus and ended up in Alor Setar!
