A late start and key spots in Berlin

Today was a late start. We didn't leave the flat until 1pm - but that's what holidays are for, right? The apartment is really great - "Old Town Apartments" - I highly recommend them! It's spacious with three balconies, and all for less money than a hotel.

Today is a day of home cooking. I went out to the shops this morning to bring in some healthy wholesome breakfastness. Ushma is currently cooking supper for us all. Lunch was very interactive - it's the first time I have to peel prawns that are floating in a soup - very tasty though!

Today we look at some of the key spots in Berlin, including the Branderberg Tor (symbolising the old gateway between East and West Germany), the Reichstag (seen in the background off the river picture), and the East Side Gallery which showcases graffiti art on the longest remaining stretch of the old Berlin Wall.

I have to say, public transport here is excellent. A one day ticket for five people for 15 Euros, on time, relaxed, good information... why is the UK so bad at this?!

The situation in terms of my Tibet permit is still  confusing. Tibet was supposed to be closed from 25th June but right now the authorities are not issuing any permits with no confirmed opening time (possibly 10th July).

I am read a bit more of the book that Paula lent me by Dervla Murphy about her travels - I am at the point where she make it through Belarus to Moscow after much bureaucracy!

Tonight we are expecting a lunar eclipse in Berlin - we will look out for it!
